Bitpanda review
Bitpanda is the best-regulated place for Europeans to buy bitcoin. The Vienna-based broker holds three MiCAR licenses: Germany's BaFin granted the first in January 2025, making Bitpanda the first major platform licensed under the EU's new regime, with further licenses from Austria's FMA and in Malta. That matters, because the MiCA grandfathering deadline of July 2026 forced unlicensed platforms out of the EU entirely.
The product is a broker, not an order-book exchange: you buy at a quoted price with Bitpanda's premium built in, funded by free SEPA transfers, cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Recurring savings plans make dollar cost averaging easy, and the platform serves 7.4 million users across the EEA.
The tradeoff is cost transparency. You pay a spread inside the quoted price rather than a visible commission, which usually works out more expensive than maker-taker rates on an exchange like Kraken. Bitpanda also promotes stocks, metals, and a long altcoin list alongside bitcoin, and it does not serve US customers.
