Bitcoin access is banned in Algeria
Algeria has banned bitcoin outright, and since 2025 the ban carries prison time. Law No. 25-10, published in July 2025, criminalizes the purchase, sale, possession, use, and mining of digital assets, replacing the softer prohibition in Article 117 of the 2018 Finance Law, which banned virtual currencies but attached no criminal penalty. Violations now carry two months to one year in prison and fines of 200,000 to 1,000,000 dinars, doubled for repeat offenses. No exchange we review can lawfully serve Algerian residents, and we will not suggest workarounds.
